Carcross was originally known as Caribou Crossing but was changed to Carcross in 1904 because of mail mix-ups with British Columbia’s Cariboo town.  I have decided to start writing about these smaller towns because I see a lot of potential in them.  Carcross for instance has increase nearly double in population from 1996-2008.  That leads me to believe that there is a lot of hope for this thriving village in, ” The Last Frontier.”  There was lots of silver mining in the region originally but after a long and hard fight there just was not enough of it to keep people around.  One thing that has helped the economy of Carcross is the Klondike Highway.  It stretches between Whitehorse, Yukon and Skagway, Alaska but it gives tourists a place to stop in between.  The White Pass railway runs a service to Carcross.
