Lethbridge, Alberta is the 4th largest city in the province (behind Calgary, Edmonton, and Red Deer).  Its located just south of Calgary, Alberta on the Oldman River. They have the only University in Alberta south of Calgary and two of the three campuses in Southern Alberta are in Lethbridge.  Lethbridge was originally developed from coal drift mines by the North Western Coal and Navigation Company and was named after their president William Lethbridge.  Before this time, this area was a complete mess with Americans fighting Natives and the area was a hot Whiskey trade.  Eventually the RCMP (then known as the North-West Mounted Police) came in, restored order and eventually the large coal mining company came in.   The first railway came into town by 1885 which helped the city thrive, grow, and dream because of the railroad industry’s dependence on coal.

Moose Jaw has been around for over 100 years from around the time Saskatchewan first entered into confederation.  It’s a great distribution center for most of Western Canada as it is located on not only both the Trans-Canada Highway and east-west rail across Canada, but also the north-south rail to Chicago.  It’s the only city of major population in Western Canada that has retained its original Main Street (completely intact).  Moose Jaw Refinery processes over 5 million barrels of heavy crude oil per year.  They do this in order to produce several grades of road asphalt, wellsite fluids, and roofing flux.  Its less than an hour away from Regina which is pretty much the only major city of its size for hundreds of miles.

Brandon, Manitoba is the second largest city in Manitoba.  It was incorporated back in 1882 and started out as a major junction for the Canadian Pacific Railway.  The people of Brandon are probably the most friendly bunch of people that I have ever come into contact with.  This is really a place that will make you feel like you are at home.  If you check out the Riverbank Discovery Centre off of Conservation Drive you can hit up their visitor center inside.  They will have pretty much all the information you could need about what local events are going on over the next few days.
