Saskatoon, Saskatchewan City Profile

Saskatoon was originally founded and developed as a dry town in which people would not have to deal with the liquor trade.  This escape was something that was necessary for a group of people and so the Temperance Colonization Society was given 21 sections of land where Saskatoon is currently located.  In 30 years the population would swell to over 12,000 people which was the second largest city in Saskatchewan at the time.  It has since become the largest city in the Province (even larger than the Capital city Regina).  The weather in this area is very unforgiving as the high’s in the Summer can get well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit while temperatures in the Winter can get as low as -50.  The area averages plenty of precipitation for a city located on the prairie but that’s more than likely due to its close proximity to the Saskatchewan River.
