Prince George was originally a trading post called Fort George which was established in 1807 by Simon Fraser and was named after King George III.  It was operated by North West Company which mainly traded furs competing with the Hudson Bay Trading Company.  Prince George is also the largest city in Northern British Columbia.  It is widely considered British Columbia’s “northern capital.”  The city play one of the most important roles in the entire provinces as it is at the crossroads of two major highways (Highway 16 and Highway 97) in Northern British Columbia.
