Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

Prince Albert is one of those cities considered an oasis in the middle of nowhere.  Those who live there might not consider that as they would say Saskatoon is just around the corner (hour in a half drive).  However if you travel directly north there really is a whole lot of nothing for a long time (all the way to the North Pole).  Henry Kelsey was the first White Man to travel through the area and that was before the 18th century started in 1692.  Now, that does not mean there were settlements other than the Native Americans who settled there originally.  By 1776 a trading post was set up where the current town is and in 1862 the Hudson Bay Trading Company had set up shop in the area.  This caused a surge in population and by then Prince Albert was actually called Isbister’s Settlement.
